Mbale Area Federation of Communities (MAFOC) is an indigenous, Child centered, community based non-governmental organization that has been in existence since 2003. We operate in the nine (9) districts of Mbale, Sironko, Bulambuli, Budaka, Butaleja,Kibuku Butebo ,pallisa and Busia.  The organization works with the affiliated eight (8) community-based organizations with field offices in Nampanga, Busiu, Mazimasa, Butove, Simu, Bugusege, Kadenge, and Pulaka to impact the lives of deprived, excluded and vulnerable children. We are majorly supported by Childfund International on sponsorship program.

 

We are quite often get funding from other sources like GAVI, USAID and others for grants or projects specific activities.

 

The organization implements programs in Early childhood development (ECD), Basic Education, House Hold economic strengthening and youth livelihood, Child protection, Humanitarian response, Monitoring and evaluation, sponsorship and Health.

 

Vision is "a self-reliant community with children and youth living dignified lives through maximized potentials".

 

MAFOC seeks to recruit suitably qualified, self-driven and competent candidate for the position of driver.

 

Job Overview

 

  • Job Title: Driver
  • Duty Station: MAFOC secretariate -Mbale Office (with frequent travel across operational districts like Sironko, Bulambuli, Budaka, and Butaleja).
  • Reports To: Finance and Administration Assistant with dotted lines to FAO.
  • Employment Type: Contractual (1 Year).

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Staff Transportation: Driver MAFOC Vehicle(s), Authorized staff, Ppartners, and authorized visitors safely to project sites and community engagements as approved by the supervisor and in line with MAFOC transport policy.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine daily maintenance checks before embarking on journeys, and have monthly vehicle reports shared.

 

·         Ensuring planned service, repair, and maintenance schedules are adhered to.

 

  • Logbook Management: Maintain accurate, up-to-date entries in the vehicle logbook, tracking mileage, destinations, and fuel consumption and working hours.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with Ugandan traffic rules and regulations while strictly adhering to MAFOC's internal transport policy

 

·         Ensure the assigned vehicle is always parked in permissible parking spaces to avoid risks of towing.

 

  • Logistical Support: Deliver official mail, documents, or programmatic materials to partner community-based organizations (CBOs) and stakeholders as per the approved vehicle request form.
  • Cleanliness: Ensure the assigned organizational vehicle remains clean, organized, and structurally secure at all times.
  • Child Safeguarding: Understand child safeguarding policy and procedures and conduct yourself in manner consistent with MAFOC Child safeguarding policy.
  • Monitor the security of vehicles, authorized passengers and luggage in line with the vehicle policy.
  • Prepare and submit vehicle monthly reports in line with Vehicle policy.
  • Strictly observe traffic rules and regulations and maximum speed limit as prescribed by the traffic regulatory Authority.
  • Observe and maintain regular working hours and at all times park the vehicles at the designated parking area at the authorized time.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Education: Minimum of a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE / O-Level).
  • Driving Licence: Must have driving class of B, D1 and in any class C category. Class A1 will be an added advantage.
  • Trainings in Vehicle mechanics is required.
  • Certificate in defensive driving, customer care and public relation is an added advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional driving experience.
  • Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and troubleshooting minor technical faults.
  • Language: Fluency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in local languages spoken in the Elgon region (such as Lumasaaba) is highly preferred.
  • Geographical Knowledge: Familiarity with the routes and terrain of Elgon region and urban settings.
  • First Aid skills are required.
  • Knowledge of national safety rules and regulations.
  • NGO background and emergency response is vital. Preferably with Childfucused NGO, civil society or community development setting.
  • Dress professionally and in accordance with the organization dress code.
